Description
60% Viognier (Lahey Vineyards and Bingham Vineyards)
40% Roussanne (Lahey Vineyards)
Viognier and Roussanne are two of the more notable white varietals of Southern France, and the Rhône Valley especially. And while West Texas and Southern France are geographically miles apart, these two varieties have a similar affinity for the High Plains as they do for their native appellation. Obviously, the growers for this fruit are at the heart of this wine; their attention to detail and care is the first step to making this a great wine. The 2017 vintage was an outstanding year, and the fruit quality translated into wines with an incredible lushness and varietal expression. Battling the elements to be sure, they deliver an exceptional crop that expresses itself in a wine that is scented with stone fruit, honeysuckle and a touch of tropical pineapple. The acidity is balanced and while the alcohol is slightly elevated, the viscosity and sweetness that it brings to the final blend adds to the overall perception of being full bodied, with great mouthfeel and weight in the mid-palate. As this wine ages it has developed an elegant, candied, dried fruit character that makes it inviting aromatically and a pleasure to drink. Clearly, these two varieties come together in a manner that makes one harmonious wine.
