Description
A maverick is literally defined as an unbranded calf, carrying no affiliation or allegiance to anyone or anything, originating from Samuel Maverick, a cattle baron of the late 1800's. As we know today, a maverick is that individual with an independent streak and a tendency to go against the grain, a true one of a kind.

As with out 2017 vintage, the 2018 Maverick is a blend of West Texas grown, Rhône varietals. Proportions and varietal selections are different, with Viognier being omitted and Carignane added. The individual grape selections came together to produce a harmonious blend. Carignane and Syrah delivered lush berry flavors and rich tannins. The Mourvedre was extra intense with herbal notes and plum jam. Counoise and Cinsault deliver (what the lack of Grenache there in thi stypical Rhone style of wine) fresh berry and acidity.

All five of the varieties strike a perfect balance of fruit and French oak complexities that have become beautifully melded. The fruit is framed with light cocoa and coffee aromas and the tannins are soft and silky. THe 2018 Maverick may be one of a kind, but it will leave a lasting impression.
