Description
Rosé wines can take form in many varieties, styles and hues. While many wine drinkers recognize tempranillo as one of Spain’s most dynamic red cultivars, it is certainly fast-defining the Texas viticultural scene!
Tempranillo thrives in the Texas high plains taking on a wonderful dimension when made into a rosé wine, especially when it is a sparkling rosé! The 2022 vintage is marked with an average bud break (last week of March) and a slightly colder and drier winter. Some varieties suffered from frost and had very small to almost no yield. Luckily, the tempranillo came out late enough to miss winter’s last call, and we were delighted with a little over 10 tons of beautiful fruit from Lahey Vineyards.
Harvested in the early morning and then sent directly to press, the grapes had just enough skin contact time to capture a lavish pink color. This sparkling rosé has a delicate aroma of strawberries, cranberry, pomegranate and citrus peel. The light dosage of residual sugar places this wine in the brut category and gives a lushness to the mouthfeel while balancing the bright acidity. The abundantly fruity, crisp finish reflects all the wonderful berry notes the aroma carries on an effervescent wave. This tempranillo rosé is a great warm-weather sipper, but it is also a food-friendly wine and pairs nicely with any type of seafood or paella, tapas or simply on its own. Any time is a good time with this sparkling rosé.
